The Widest Rectilinear Glass in the World Canon’s Newly Announced 11-24mm f/4.0L Lens

I’m gonna buy one of the first Canon 11-24mm f/4.0L lenses Canon makes.  I love shooting wide.  If this glass performs, it will be the widest lens on the market and a true game changer.  Now that I shoot the Canon 5D Mark III, I’ve moved away from crop sensor glass.

Long gone is the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM FLD AF Ultra Wide Zoom Lens for APS-C sized Nikon I was shooting when I had the Nikon D800.

Having liked the Sigma 8-16 so much pm Nikon, I did get and just sold my Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM FLD AF Ultra Wide Zoom Lens for APS-C sized Canon. However, the 5D3 isn’t as handy with crop glass as the D800, because the D800 actually has a crop shooting mode, which Canon full frames currently seem to lack.

I’m looking forward to the Canon 5D Mark IV. I need more focus points and better ISO handling than the 5D III. Nikon does much better job on focus points vs Canon. In fact, many photographers I know are switching to Sony a7 II bodies now. The Sony offers a focus peek function with lots of focus points, ability to see what you are actually going to get photographically captured in its display, and pretty darn fast accurate focus with excellent quality optics like the Zeiss 55mm 1.8. It also claims to be able to use most any glass with adapters… Though I see conflicting reports on the speed of focus with these adapters and various glass/shooting combinations. That, and accessory issues keeps me today firmly planted in Canon.

The Canon 5Ds is the long rumored and now announced 50.6 megapixel monster, much anticipated, at just over 50 Megs, it’s not for my style of shooting and is why I moved away from Nikon’s high megapixel push into Canon bodies in the first place. Yup, the 5D4 it will be for me… If I don’t switch to Sony first…

Now if you are a megapixel lover, you can get in line for the Canon 5Ds and place an order to buy it on Adorama by clicking here.

In the meantime, the Canon 11-24mm f/4.0L… OMG. I love shooting wide. Get in line and order at Adorama by clicking here. I hope the chromatic aberation will be under control in the corners.  The Canon 14mm f/2.8 IIThe has too much of this distortion softening the corners, and I use my corners, so I’ve sold my 14mm and use the  Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L Ultrawide Zooom instead.

At f/4.0, and I never shoot at 2.8 w these wide angles anyway, hopefully Canon has pushed the wide end into a very happy high image quality place… I love living wide.

Looking forward to hearing how y’all fare with this awesome new game changer, if the performance is there. Is it?
